      <image:title>Consultation - Consultation</image:title>
<image:caption>Sometimes, it’s about asking the right question(s) and working as a cohesive group to get to the heart of any concern or issue. This is the premise of a “village.” Consultation services include gathering information to determine the base concern, what interventions have been attempted, what results were achieved, and discuss and problem-solve next steps to increase positive outcomes. Recently, this has included consulting with a district seeing limited progress with an IEP. Reviewing the data already completed, we were able to identify strategies and services not previously addressed to help a student progress to grade level skills. This service is offered to parents, teachers, administrators - any educator requesting consultation directly related to a student.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Contract Testing - Contract Testing</image:title>
<image:caption>At this time, we are only certified to conduct testing for school districts. This may come in the form of low-incident cases (such as vision or hearing impairments, specific medical conditions), difficult and/or tricky cases with multiple layers, as well as full assessments for example, Autism. We have participated in meetings with advocates and attorneys, and have experience with due process cases. We are well-versed in Alabama eligibility requirements and have experience evaluating and addressing a multitude of issues involving student needs. Our goal and purpose is to provide teachers and parents information to support their student’s learning based on individual needs. Our approach is to test the referring concerns as well as any flags which may arise during the testing process. Our educational experience included practicums and instruction at the Center for Dyslexia (Middle Tennessee State University) and our testing has identified early learning delays, seizure activity, auditory processing delays, and more.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Liaison / Advocacy - Liaison and Advocacy</image:title>
<image:caption>In over 18 years of school psychology, we’ve noticed that the mention of an “advocate” in the school setting is met with silence, sighs, groans, and anxiety. Why? Because at some point the term, in relation to schools, seemed to take on a completely different meaning. Advocates frequently: Do not understand or seek to understand the process, Do not use data to make their requests, Do not always know what to ask or how to ask for certain information, Have tunnel-vision in their expectations, and Can be condescending, adversarial, and frankly, mean, leading good teachers to cry in meetings or leave the profession following these situations. We have always believed it is our ethical obligation to advocate for kids, regardless of what side of the fence that puts us on – this sometimes means disagreeing with parents, teachers, administrators, and/or district level staff. We believe schools should seek to create relationships with parents so they feel comfortable asking questions, disagreeing, and requesting compromises or solutions, but that does not occur everywhere. We believe an advocate should be someone who understands education, is a bridge between parents and schools, and offers support and explanation for parents while pushing school staff to think outside of the box. Advocates accomplish these goals with appropriate conflict resolution skills. Because of these experiences, liaison – rather than advocacy – is yet another service we provide. It is not our intent to walk in with a confrontational agenda, as this is not how we want our kids to behave. It’s our responsibility to model the behavior we expect from our students.</image:caption>
